Variorum — retrieval that cites its sources

Variorum — retrieval that cites its sources.

A governed knowledge-retrieval platform: every answer arrives with its sources, its effective date, and the reasoning that connects them — so retrieval stays auditable as your policies, versions, and sources change.

One governed knowledge graph. Two front doors — for people and for agents.

Not yet available Variorum is in development. Everything below the fold, including the demo panel, uses sample data — it does not connect to a live system yet.

For regulated teams

For regulated teams: point-in-time answers, deterministic outputs, and a full audit trail from answer to source clause.

For commercial teams

For commercial teams: explainable retrieval on an engine-agnostic platform that's never stranded by the next research breakthrough.

About the name

A variorum edition is a scholarly practice: publishing a text together with all of its variant readings, and a critical apparatus recording which witnesses attest each reading. Variorum borrows that discipline for policy and knowledge retrieval — a policy corpus that evolves through bulletins, addendums, interpretations, and waivers is a text with variants; Variorum keeps every version accounted for, answers as of any date, and attaches the apparatus — which clause, from which source, admitted or excluded, and why — to every answer it gives.

Glossary

Apparatus
The record of which clauses were used to answer a question, and which were considered and excluded, and why.
As-of
The date used to determine which version of a policy was in force for an answer.
Collation
Comparing two versions of the policy corpus side by side to see what changed between them.
Reading
A specific fact or value retrieved from the corpus, together with the date range it was valid.
Recension
A pinned, reproducible snapshot of the retrieval engine and the corpus it drew from, so an answer can be reproduced exactly.
Witness
A source clause that supports part of an answer.
